Beskrivelse87k038 Little Boone and Boone No. 8 halfway through pivot maneuver (8476465267).jpg
English: Anderson Ferry after backing away from Kentucky bank enroute to Cincinnati.
This car ferry consists of a barge, "Boone No. 8", towed by a small towboat, "Little Boone" (doc. # 263441).
The bow of the towboat is connected to the side of the barge by a large hinged bar which allows the towboat to pivot 180 degrees and propel the barge in either direction.
In this photo, "Little Boone" is halfway through swinging from having the barge on its port side to having the barge on its starboard side.

This single screw towboat was built in 1952 by Walker Boat Yard, Paducah, Ky.
(Apparently the barge "Boone No. 8" was built the same year.)
Originally named "Mary E", it was owned by R. J. Hardesty and Sons, Elizabethtown, Illinois.
In 1964, it was sold to Richard Kottmyer, Constance, Ky., and renamed "Little Boone".
In 1986, it was sold to Paul W. Anderson, Verona, Ky.
This ferry was also known as Kottmyer's Ferry and has apparently been owned by either the Anderson or Kottmyer families for almost two centuries, ever since George Anderson bought the ferry from Raleigh Colston in 1817.
